It’s Zippy Tip Tuesday!
Do you find yourself using some pretty odiferous ingredients when you cook? One night of fish or onions or broccoli can leave the house stinking for days. My S.O.’s solution is to trek through the house spraying room freshener, but that stuff can be just as irritating as the food smell, if you ask me!
Well, I had an abundance of orange peels left last week after making my Orange Supremes and Chocolate Crepes with Orange Creme videos. Some were used to make a cleaning solution that I learned about from Fountain Avenue Kitchen. Others I stuffed down the garbage disposal for freshness, and the rest got made into potpourri.
I had never tried it before, but I did some research and found that many things can be thrown into a pan and simmered to create a pleasant smelling fragrance: fruit peels, cranberries, whole herbs and spices, vanilla, etc. This time, I used orange peels, cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and nutmeg stubs. Before I knew it, the whole house was filled with a delightful spicy citrus-y aroma!
Just be sure to set a timer to remind yourself to top off the water as it simmers; and by all means, don’t leave the house with it on the stove!
