It’s Zippy Tip Tuesday!
Have you ever wanted to divide a recipe in half, but the recipe calls for a whole egg?
It’s not like you can cut an egg in half…
or can you?

Mom always said it is nice to share!
Tee hee – I do this all the time. Usually trying to split something that calls for three eggs! Every now and than I get lazy and just use two eggs. “Meh, what’s a little extra egg?” lol
I split recipes all the time too, especially when I am experimenting and don’t want to waste too much if it ends up a flop!
Thanks Claire!
Great information to have, Sherry
I “cut” eggs in half all the time…I just haven’t gotten the nerve to do it on an actual recipe on my blog yet!
Thanks Laura, I’m a new follower!

Great! I do that too but what do you do with the leftover egg?! That part is frustrating to me! Visiting from Thursday Favorite Things and following you!
Hi AnnMarie, I oftentimes throw the leftovers into a scramble the next morning, but they also can be frozen for later use. Have a great week!
Thanks for this. I have always just tried to make due with the whole egg. This is handy.
Thanks for the wonderful tip. I to try to split recipes and run into this problem a lot. Thank you for sharing this with the Less laundry, More Linking party.

Thanks Katherine, and thanks for hosting!
At the risk of sounding like a know it all: When I’ve put eggs in measuring cups I’ve gotten a quarter cup which is 4 Tablespoons. I have to say, it looked like you had more than 1.5 Tbsp left in the bowl. But I had never thought of measuring to get half an egg. What a great idea! I’ve measured eggs because sometimes I have small eggs and if a recipe calls for several eggs, I might use an extra one to get the full measurement. For half an egg (depending on the recipe) I’ve used either just an egg white or an extra whole egg. I will have to remember measuring a beaten egg.
Great observation Sharon! In the video, I actually used eggs from my neighbor’s chickens that are super jumbo! So that’s why I said the “average large” egg, because mine would probably be considered XX large in the store, ha. Have a great weekend!
nice! Who knew you could split an egg. But I do usually just opp for rounding up since I use medium eggs, and I figure if I used Large eggs, it all equals out. Thanks for sharing on Foodie Friday
Thanks for the tip! Also, love your pic!
Have a great weekend! Julia
Thanks for sharing this. I hate to waste eggs so can I freeze the other half?
Absolutely! I also throw them into scrambled eggs the next morning for breakfast, but certainly you could freeze them too. Have a great week Bev!
We are a family of two and this is a great tip. Most recipes are too much for us.

Funny stuff. Of course, I would use a bantam (small) chickens whose eggs are the size of half an egg…but that’s just me.
